Rutland County Museum and Visitor Centre
Rutland County Museum and Visitor Centre is the perfect introduction to England’s smallest county. The "Welcome to Rutland" gallery, tells the story of the county, and leads into displays of archaeology, history and rural life. You can have a go at traditional local games or sit and enjoy a tea or coffee in the spectacular 200 year old indoor riding school of the Rutland Fencible Cavalry. The Visitor Centre holds the latest information about other events and activities in the area and our Award Winning Garden is worth seeing at any time of year. The museum has a varied and exciting programme of Exhibitions and Events, with a host of family activities including our new Discovery Tots club. We change to our Summer hours in April which means we will be open on Sundays from Easter. See our opening times for more details. The Museums Service is supported by The Friends of Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle who have raised over £170,000 for the work of the Museum since 1973. The Friends have helped the Museum to buy and fit out additional premises, facilities and exhibitions and to acquire many items for the Museum’s collections.
