Uppingham
 in Bloom

For many years now Uppingham has been a colourful town.  Floral decorations started to appear in quantity in 1987, when two or three members of the Chamber of Trade galvanized the townspeople into action.  Entry into the East Midlands in Bloom competition followed.

First place was awarded on five occasions in the first seven years of competition.  Since then winning has been elusive in spite of increased efforts by members of the towns Bloom Committee, who have had to be content with placings in the top three.

Rose beds have proliferated, as well of course, as the seasonal hanging baskets and tubs.

The contribution of Uppingham School to the attractiveness of the town has been significant.  Notably with an eye to future generations there has been a vast amount of tree planting, and a millennium project led to 22 trees being planted on the town recreational area, Tod's Piece.

Uppingham in Bloom has been managed by volunteers.  Many are involved as 'Friends'.  The committee are always glad to know of people who would like to be involved, either as committee members, sponsors or as participants in the Friends scheme.

Sponsorships and Donations are Always Appreciated.
