On the day she will bring lots of sample of boxes so people can look at how they are made. She will start by talking through a bit about how her work developed and then move onto the boxes and discuss the concepts and different designs.
She will move onto demonstrations and teaching the techniques that are: hand stitch through card, layering, cutwork, technique with the textile soldering iron and cutting out/making up the box. The aim of the introduction is to inspire participants to interpret their own ideas, and create a box that is personal to them.
The workshop will be very experimental encouraging people to play with materials and techniques, and also to think about the inside and outside of their box, the handles and tag. At the end of the day participants will come together to talk about their box (or sample) and discuss ideas which can be tried at home.

COLOURFUL ANODISED ALUMINIUM JEWELLERY WORKSHOP with Lindsey Mann
Saturday 29 November 2008: 9am 5pm
Fee: £38 / £35 per person must be paid in advance with a cheque payable to ‘VCC’
Working with aluminium sheet you will create beautiful coloured jewellery.
The aluminium sheet has undergone an electro-chemical treatment that produces an oxide layer over the surface of the metal. Once anodised the surface of the aluminium becomes very porous and able to accept dyes. At this point the sheet can be coloured using a variety of techniques including printing, drawing, dyes and resists. The porous layer is then sealed, permanently trapping the colours beneath the surface of the metal.
During the workshop you will learn the basics of colouring aluminium and simple Jewellery making techniques. You will use these new skills to make a truly unique piece of Jewellery to your own design. You can expect to complete at least one piece of jewellery during the day.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING WORKSHOP With Peter Welton
Saturday 7th March 2009, 10am 4pm
Fee: £30 / £28 per person
This is a one-day course exploring watercolour painting with artist Peter Welton. The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to the five methods of applying paint which the artist uses to produce vibrant watercolours where ‘colour’ becomes the subject of the painting.
The day will begin with a demonstration and short talk about the technique but students on the course very quickly get to a hands-on experience. After a morning of experimentation to familiarise themselves with the methodology they move on in the afternoon to start painting a picture using photographs supplied by Peter, many of which were used by him in his paintings, prints of which will be on show during the day. People not familiar with his work might like to have a look at his website before enrolling on this course. <www.peterwelton.com> The workshop is suitable for adults of all abilities and Peter particularly welcomes absolute beginners.WORKSHOPS ARCHIVE
