Drama at Vale of Catmose College

All students study drama in key stage 3 and, like music, it is a popular GCSE option. You can join our thriving drama club that stages a number of high quality productions each year.

Our college productions in recent years have included successful large scale musicals. You will take part in workshops and see productions put on by visiting theatrical companies and also see productions at local and national theatres.

Grease Workshops

Singing and performance workshops are being held during lunchtimes in November for students who are interested in joining the production of 'Grease this year. Auditions will be held in December. The details are listed opposite.

Shakespeare Evening - Three plays for the price of one!

On Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 October VCC held a Shakespeare Evening in the theatre. Students from years 8, 9, 10 and 11 performed the plays of 'Macbeth' and 'As you like it' and also a dance based on 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

'Macbeth' was directed by four year 11 students - Vicky Dickman, Mat Drake, Josh Lovering and Jack Thomson. Their performance kept to the original text but in a modern day setting - in a battle - khaki and camouflage was the colour of dress. The three witches (Martha Clewlow, Jessica Stimpson and Faith Vanne) wore business suits and were as efficient and scary as two well known Vice Principals! Will Hodgson and Liam Walsh both played a convincing Macbeth taking different scenes between them. The devious and manipulative Lady Macbeth was played effectively by both Frances Clewlow and Molly Thomson.

The play 'As you like it' was directed by Emily Bird and Ann Gwyther (Yr 11). This was a rehearsed improvised performance with a lot of cross dressing. Some of the boys played girls, some of the girls played boys and the heroine of the piece - Rosalind, played both a girl and a boy! Confusing as it may sound, with the use of costume the audience was able to follow the storyline with its twists and turns.

This was a romantic comedy and was certainly very funny, with particularly humorous performances from Josh Roberton and Evan Tudno-Jones.

In between these two plays was a dance/mime by three Year 9 students - Rosie Evans, Steph Hall and Mary Leefe bringing the mischief from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' into the theatre.

Sound and lighting was effectively run by Sam Batten and Ben Stimpson.

Well done to all involved for a memorable evening of performance.

As you like it - Josh Roberton

The making of the play was unforgettable. Now that there are no more rehearsals I feel as though there is something missing on my Monday evenings. The performance itself was very nerve racking and because of that I tried cracking jokes quietly backstage to calm myself down, nobody laughed but who cares, I felt calm. Dressing up as a woman I was fine with but when I saw what I was wearing I thought to myself 'No Way'. Once I was in my costume and backstage though I enjoyed every moment. Any opportunity to get involved, I would recommend it to anyone.
