Big Build: Public Meeting - Saturday 14 June

The design for the redevelopment of the college is really starting to take shape now. Consultations with faculty staff have helped to shape some very exciting new learning spaces throughout the college buildings.

A public exhibition of all the latest plans is being held on Saturday 14th June between 1pm and 5pm in the Council Chamber at Rutland County Council's offices in Catmose, Oakham.

Also on display will be a scale model of the whole campus development and a 3D computer animation. Staff, students, parents and guardians are urged to come and see for themselves just how this transformational development will look when the new college opens in 2010.

Of course the scope of the development is much more than just the new college. The Campus will offer new community facilities including sport & recreation.

I have attached the latest update on the Big Build. We have nearly completed the design of the new college and we will be presenting these to you for comment, as part of the consultation very shortly. We have worked very closely with the architects, the technical consultants and the council to ensure that we will have a building that will meet the needs of learners in the 21st Century.

We believe that the design will give us one of the very best newly built colleges in the country. The accommodation is being designed to provide flexibility. It includes classrooms of different sizes, some of which can be opened out into each other to provide even larger spaces. As well as classrooms, there will be ‘breakout areas’ where students can work individually or in groups and a new library and resource area.

At the heart of the college will be the central atrium, containing a 280 seat theatre, a drama studio, an amphitheatre, linked to the new art gallery. It is going to be a very large and impressive building which will help students enjoy their learning even more.

We are working in partnership with Rutland County Council to develop the new college and sports facilities for 2010. The ‘Big Build’ is the name we have given to the project.  We have agreed that all information and feedback on the project will be coordinated by the council press officer in consultation with us. The first news letters about the project are available from the link below.
