North Luffenham & Edith Weston in the 1950s

50 Years of Marriage
Wedding Day - July 1951
Jim & Virginia O'Connor - Wedding DayJim and Virginia were married in July 1951 shortly before coming to England.

'Soon it will be fifty years since Virginia and I and our little girl said good-bye to Edith Weston. Most all the English folks who lived in the village at the time we did were much older than were we young newlyweds. Today most all of them will be gone and with them most of the local memories of the Canadian men, women and children who for a few short years were a vital part of the local scene. We too are growing old in years. In July 2001 Virginia and I marked our fiftieth wedding anniversary. In January of 2003, Virginia will turn 72 years of age, and in May of 2003 I will be 75 years of age. So, with this letter I am including a photo of us taken in July 1951 on our wedding day and one taken in July 2001 taken on our fiftieth anniversary. I thought that these two pictures would give some visual measure of the passage of the time since we lived there in our little caravan/s and in that quaint little row-cottage in Edith Weston.'
