Uppingham Local History Studies Group
About the Group
ULHSG is a group of people interested in learning about the history of their town, part of the ancient County of Rutland. Study covers oral, printed, pictorial and documentary information. The Group, which first met in 2000, has several publications to its name and through it members have built up a comprehensive database of information about the town's past. Our aim is to record what we discover to ensure it is retained for posterity. We actively encourage people who own deeds and documents to deposit them for safety or at least allow copies to be taken. We are an informal Group with no fixed membership who meet monthly to exchange information and advice, review progress and share knowledge relating to and arising from our personal research projects. We welcome new members to work with us. A number of research projects by individual members into town properties, their owners, the 1804 Enclosure Map, the churchyard survey, the Methodist Church and others, are being worked on. From time to time the Group is called upon to prepare leaflets for the Parish Church and articles for the Town Council's UppTown News.
