Rutland Invitation Quiz League

What is RIQL?League ResultsCup and Plate Results

The Rutland Invitation Quiz League or RIQL is a local quiz based on pubs and clubs in Rutland and the surrounding area.

Teams meet every Tuesday at 8:30 for a home match at their pub or club or an away match at another team's venue. Seven players are needed for each game, but the teams usually have more members so every team member doesn't need to play every week. At the game each team has six players who answer questions and a seventh member who reads the questions for a home match or does the timing if they are from the away team. There are ten rounds of questions, eight to the whole team and two answered by individuals. The questions come from a national organisation which sets for a wide range of quizzes including some for TV.

The League is organised in two divisions of 12 teams from Rutland and nearby parts of Leicestershire. More teams are welcome, particularly from Uppingham and the southern end of Rutland! The Quiz season lasts from September to early April, when many members start rigorous training for the Rutland Petanque League which takes over the Tuesday evening slot.
