Tree Planting to Celebrate Centenarian’s Birthday

In celebration of Mrs Tasneys 100th birthday last year, and because of her own love of trees, Mrs Tasney decided to donate 5 native trees to Whissendine. Three of the trees were planted on Saturday 30th June 2012, at the edges of the village play area to help provide screening and also add to the biodiversity of the area.

The site for the trees was chosen following a survey of possible sites in the village and consultation with neighbouring properties. The planting was undertaken by members of the Whissendine Environment Group (WEG), watched and assisted by Mrs Tasney.

There are another two native tress that Mrs Tasney is donating, that WEG is still looking to the best possible village sites for them.

WEG was formed following the Parish Plan, anyone interested in helping them with various environmental projects in the village, can find out more on their website on Rutnet at http://www.rutnet.co.uk/pp/gold/viewgold.asp?ID=5605 or contact them by e-mailing whisseg@gmail.com

The next WEG event is going to be “Green Ways to Save” on Sunday 15th July 2012 in the garden of Sally and Andrew Moyce opposite the old vicarage, as part of the villages open gardens they will have displays and activities showing people how they can save money.
