Rutland 'Question Time'

Published:Tuesday 5 January 2010

Picture of CoinsTwo 'Rutland Question Time' events are taking place in Oakham later this month to provide residents with a chance to find out more about the council budget for 2010/11.

You can submit your views on the 2010/11 council budget online

It is hoped that the two events, both hosted by Rob Persani from Rutland Radio, will provide taxpayers with an opportunity to ask any questions they might have and to find out more about council services in the local area.

Leader of Rutland County Council, Roger Begy, said: 'We’ve taken the opportunity to update the way that we share our budget plans with the local community. In previous years, we’ve always done a public meeting and a radio question time with both proving popular. This is the first time that we’ve combined the two and we hope it will be popular'.

Roger Begy added, 'Residents are encouraged to come along and listen to a short presentation about plans for the council budget for 2010/11. The next 12 months will be very difficult for councils up and down the country and it is no different in Rutland. There will then be a question and answer session for people to raise any topics about which they would like an answer'.

The two 'Rutland Question Time' events are taking place on Wednesday 20 January (7.00pm – 8.30pm) and Saturday 23 January (10.00am – 11.30am). Both are being held at Rutland County Museum in Oakham.

Topics expected to be covered at the Question Time events include:

• The council response to the closure of RAF Cottesmore
• Spending/saving plans for 2010/11
• Impact of recession on the local area and future outlook
• Any other topic that a resident wishes to raise

It is hoped that the Question Time events will be the first of many more consultations between Rutland County Council and the local community during 2010.

Places are allocated on first come first served with 166 spaces available for each event.

Priority will be given to questions submitted in advance to enable a more detailed/informed answer to be provided by the Panel (made up of Councillors). The deadline for questions is Friday 15 January 2010.
