Next meeting being held at VAR, Oakham on Thursday 4 March

Rutland County Council are urging residents to come along to and support the Rutland Over Sixties Engagement (ROSE) group.

The ROSE group was set up in spring 2009 as an independent forum to enable people over 60 living in Rutland to address specific issues with local agencies and organisations and look at areas of interest. To date, topics covered have included:

• Active lifestyle opportunities
• Transport in and around the county
• Planning for long-term care
• Domestic adaptations and appliances
• Home safety and security

The group is currently chaired by Councillor Hugh Rees, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care at Rutland County Council, he said: “This is a lively group of individuals who are looking to discuss key issues for the over sixties in Rutland and act as a voice for over sixties in the county. We are now keen to hear what residents think the next steps for the group should be, and we are inviting people to take part in a questionnaire. Questionnaires can be filled out online or can be picked up from our local libraries or the County Council offices. ROSE is always looking for new members who feel that they could get actively involved in the topics we discuss. Please do come along and help us to act as an independent voice for the over 60’s in Rutland. Meetings are open and are held at VAR on the first Thursday afternoons of alternate months, the next meeting being on March 4th.”

There are also key agencies and organisations across the county who are hoping to come and present to the group in 2010, including; Spire Homes, the Stroke Association, Active Lifestyles and Rutland Adult Learning. Rutland County Council has also pledged to provide support over the next year to ensure the groups maintained existence.

Residents who are over 60 years of age are being asked to take a few minutes to answer a brief questionnaire regarding the future of the group, which is available below or at local libraries, Rutland County Museum and Rutland County Council main offices. Completed forms should be emailed or handed in by 1st February 2010 to Sue Renton, ROSE Group, Voluntary Action Rutland, Barleythorpe Road, Oakham, LE15 6QH Telephone: 01572 720282 E-mail: srenton@ruralcc.org.uk
