Fee: £30/£28. Workshop in Textile Room. End 4pm
Create a textile artwork, using screen print, embroidery and appliqué.
1: We will begin the workshop by silk screen printing blocks of colour and pattern onto lengths of cotton. This will teach everyone the technique of screen printing. These fabrics will be used for the bases of our artworks.
2: We will photocopy the photographs to make a4 or a3 size images. Using tracing paper we will trace over the figurative image and produce a line drawing. This will be our pattern for making the fabric base.
3: Using pens and bondaweb we will draw over the image to produce detailed shapes.
4: We will each select a colour palette of our choice using the fabrics provided, fabrics we have printed and fabrics that we have each brought along. We will iron the bondaweb pieces onto the fabrics and cut them out. We will use our tracing paper plan to place the pieces on the background fabric; then iron them down.
5: Machine and hand embroidery will be used to add texture and linear detail.
6: Once finished we the pieces will be ironed flat and stretched across a wooden frame, using a staple gun.
7: The piece is now finished and ready for any exhibition! Please book a week in advance on 01572 725904 or email.

We will draw inspiration from the wealth of pattern found in traditional designs from Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. There are endless combinations of patterns and colour that produce visually exciting results. These are found in carpets, embroidery, architectural detail and tiles. Inspiration materials for designs will be provided in the form of stitched textiles and illustrations.
The techniques learnt are easy to achieve, and will include layered appliqué, encouraging torn and frayed edges, combined with an embellishment of free machine embroidery, and a good mix of bright colour. Techniques will be demonstrated in easy to follow stages.
By the end of the day you will have a piece of work that can be made up into a small wall hanging or framed panel. Please book a week in advance on 01572 725904 or email.

Dry point is a direct intaglio technique. The tool usually used is a sharp tool with a steel point. Varying the pressure on the tool causes a variation in the depth and width of the lines that after printing will yield a more or less rich effect on paper. Tone can also be gained with the use of wire wool or sandpaper. In this technique, the burrs created by the pressure of the point are left to hold the ink, giving a soft, thick printed line which is the main characteristic of this style.
The outcome of the day will be most valuably learning about printing in general and specifically how to make a dry point print, and taking home a professionally executed print. Please book a week in advance on 01572 725904 or email.
