PE Lessons

Students who have been excused from PE must still bring their PE kit so that they can take on the role of a coach/ref etc. They will be allowed to wear their coats to keep warm but we are conscious that some students are getting their shoes and trousers rather muddy when the lesson is on the grass.

Thank you for your support.

Cold weather

With the weather getting colder students are strongly encouraged to wear layers underneath their school PE tops and black tracksuit trousers when participating in sports lessons outside.

Black shorts and white polo tops to be worn inside.

If there are any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Inter Year 8 and 9 Swimming Gala

On Friday 5 December we held our annual inter school swimming gala against Uppingham and Casterton and although we were missing a couple of key swimmers we had to make a couple of late changes due to illness we were optimistic that we had a strong enough team to retain the trophy.

A number of students got through to the final and when we heard that the year 8 team had come first overall and the year 9 came second we were hopeful that we had done enough to win. Unfortunately we scored 117 points and Uppingham 118. Beaten by one point. We were devastated but I am sure that had we had our full squad we would have won convincingly. Hopefully this defeat will make us more determined next year to practice more and win the trophy back.

Many thanks to all the students who represented the school on this occasion and supported one another enthusiastically throughout the competition. I was pleased with the peace and quiet on my return to home!

A special mention must go to Molly Spawton, William Bird, Grace Rock, Anthony Landucci, Jack Crankshaw and Hannah Duncan who not only won their finals but whose swimming was a pleasure to watch. In addition, a big thank you to our higher and sports leaders who helped with the scoring and timing. Yet again you did a professional job.

Year 8 & 9 Basketball League

Year 8

A very enthusiastic group of year 8 students have created an excellent team ethos to this year's basketball team. Though they are yet to experience success in their league fixtures, their commitment has not yet been questioned.

The boys have definitely showed a vast improvement since the start of the season. They have learnt a variety of tactics including man to man marking and plays to develop the lay-up shot.

Well done to all the boys who have represented the team, continue to develop your basketball skills through lessons and the extra-curricular session. Well done for all your efforts and hopefully the boys can demonstrate their improvements next year.

Year 9

A very talented group of year 9s have placed themselves in an excellent position to win the Rutland & Melton Basketball League for the first time in the college's history.

Some excellent performances have seen the boys win all 5 of their games so far. The boys have demonstrated their commitment and determination to taste success by displaying advanced skills and tactics in some very well contested games.

The boys now need to maintain their concentration and work extremely hard to achieve positive results in their remaining two games. I look forward to working with the team to secure the Basketball Championship. Well done.

No kit policy

The PE department would like to reinforce the importance of students bringing their sports kit. Incidents of no kit will be dealt with through the use of the following sanctions:

* 1st no kit: Verbal warning;
* 2nd no kit: Verbal warning;
* 3rd no kit: Telephone home;
* 4th no kit: Letter home and compulsory attendance at catch up sports club on Friday after college.
* 4+ no kit: refer to senior management.

In addition to this the PE department would like to introduce their new policy in which students are expected to bring their PE kit and get changed as normal even if they have a note excusing them from PE. We feel that the students can still take an active role in PE whereby they can help set up equipment and fulfil a coach/officiating role.
