The Wheatsheaf is a handsome whitewashed building that sits close to the old church in Oakham - a typical old English market town. The inn dates from the 17th Century, with some additions, and reflects the elegance and charm of the period, while making use of the best of modern features. The interior has retained many of its original splendid features, such as the original fireplace, which was rediscovered just a few years ago during some essential refurbishmet work. It has wooden, stone and carpeted floors. A large 1 to 3 hour pay car park is just opposite.

You will find a warm and cosy bar, with a snug area and a charming lounge containing a large comfortable leather couch, a nice fire to sit by, and potted plants and a warm welcome for a homely atmosphere. This room can also be used for private meetings.
Husband and wife Paul and Lesley Bassett make sure that high standards are maintained in decor, food and drink. The eating areas will comfortably seat around 40 people, and the food can certainly be described as restaurant quality food at pub prices. The food is served only at lunchtimes and both snacks and full meals to a high standard can be ordered. There is a small, award winning hidden patio and garden area to the rear - you can eat your food outside if you wish, and in good weather we can seat around 40 people in the garden. Five real ales are to be found at the bar, four regular beers, including Dark mild,Tiger best bitter, Beacon bitter,Adnams bitter, a weekly Guest beer, lagers, including Heineken Premium, San Miguel, and Carling, Guinness, Strongbow draught cider with Bulmers in bottles and St Hellier Pear cider in bottles. A selection of wines is also available. Now that smoking is no longer allowed inside we have turned our garden into an all year round venue with electric patio heaters and covered areas for you to sit and relax in whilst you have a cigarette and socialise with friends, and now we have installed a Chimnea to give even more heat outside, so come and try it, everyone else is.
