The WITS Project 

WITS is the Welland Internet Transport Service, a project funded by the Welland Partnership through the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA). The project has funding for a five year period between 2001-2005.

Vision

Working on behalf of the Welland Partnership to make transport more accessible and easier to use, particularly for the elderly, disabled and other non-drivers. 

Enabling long-term solutions through the use of new technologies such as the Internet and text messaging, maximising existing resources and reducing multiple car use, in the Welland Partnership area.

Objectives

  • To support rural transport initiatives and increase access to information and awareness of existing and planned initiatives.

  • To provide an online hub for links to all social and rural transport initiatives, including online booking facilities.

  • To provide information on all forms of rural transport to the community in appropriate forms.

  • To identify and produce recommendations for the implementation of new services.

  • Consider possible options for delivery of Internet access at village level. e.g In the form of mobile kiosks or laptop provision.

  • To carry out trials of online transactions.
